It’s the weekend and I’m over in London investigating a host of new iPhone apps out later this year. In the meantime, I’ve hand-picked four of the latest releases from the App Store for you to check out.

This week I’ve selected a smattering of fun games. My top pick for this week is Canabalt, plus [...]

iPhone Left Out of the Flash Party: Big Deal

Written on October 05, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 38 people have commented

Today’s big announcement is that Flash is getting an update to 10.1 that will bring support for full Flash functionality to a lot of mobile phones — except, of course, for the iPhone, which remains staunchly Flash-independent.
Google Android, Symbian, and now BlackBerry are all signed on with Flash to work together on the Open Screen [...]

iPhones, iPods and Laptop Flash in Patent Trade Complaint

Written on August 27, 2009 by Liam Cassidy and 3 people have commented

Never rains, but it pours, eh? As if Apple doesn’t have enough on its plate with the FCC, the latest patent infringement accusations are in, this time courtesy of BTG International.
BTG claims some of Samsung’s flash chips violate patents it owns on multilevel NAND Flash memory, according to Macworld. While BTG isn’t directly accusing Apple [...]

Now Boarding: Airline Tycoon Gaming

Written on August 03, 2009 by Chris Ryan and 6 people have commented

Though no gaming platform has a shortage of “simulator” tycoon style games, few have enough engaging gameplay to really stand out among the crowd. Now Boarding, a tycoon style game revolving around routing passengers at an airport, is one of these little treasures and a great game to help you relax and escape from the [...]

Six Tips for Supercharging Safari

Written on July 22, 2009 by David Appleyard and 43 people have commented

Although Safari improves with every version released, it remains difficult for one browser to cater for everyone’s needs. Firefox has successfully approached this problem through the use of Add-Ons, but Safari continues to lack any widely promoted form of plugin or extension functionality.
Despite this, I still remain a huge fan of Safari’s simplicity and speed [...]

Flash Mobile 10 Coming This Fall, Not to iPhone

Written on June 23, 2009 by Nick Santilli and 24 people have commented

Adobe’s recent earnings report revealed that version 10 of its Flash Mobile framework will be available this fall. This is great news — that is, it’s great news for phones running Windows Mobile, Palm Web OS, Symbian and Android, which Flash Mobile 10 will be optimized to run on.
Just as AT&T’s logo was so obviously [...]

Apple Places Order for 100 Million 8Gb Flash Chips

Written on April 09, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 6 people have commented

Let’s not jump to any conclusions. Maybe they just want to redecorate the Cupertino campus, and they thought covering the walls in 8Gb (gigabit, not byte) flash chips would be original and visually appealing.
Actually, that’s probably the last possible reason Apple recently placed a massive order for 100 million 8Gb chips from their suppliers, most [...]

Weekly App Store Picks: March 28, 2009

Written on March 28, 2009 by Olly Farshi and 4 people have commented

Welcome one and all to the weekend, a time for rest, relaxation and fresh pickings from the App Store.
Before checking out this week’s apps, we’ve got seven days worth of Apple happenings to run through.
First up, the week kicked off with a scathing review of the Daniel X graphic novel — an utterly dull comic-book [...]

Apple, Adobe Working Together On Flash for iPhone? Define “Together”

Written on February 02, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 5 people have commented

The weekend brought renewed hope for those waiting with bated breath for the marriage of iPhone and Flash. I have to admit that it really aggravates me when I see a site I want to check out, type the address into Mobile Safari, and am greeted with nothing but a background color and that aggravating [...]

ARM-Optimized Flash: Adobe Serious About iPhone

Written on November 17, 2008 by Darrell Etherington and 28 people have commented

The ongoing back-and-forth between Apple and Adobe over Flash on the iPhone is well-documented. First it was, then wasn’t, then was, then probably wasn’t again a possibility. If we take Apple CEO Steve Jobs at his word, then the problem lies with Flash being too heavy and Flash Lite being too insubstantial. And as it [...]

CNN Money is reporting that Adobe has announced that it has begun work on a Flash player for the iPhone.
Last month Jobs said Flash wouldn’t be added to the iPhone anytime soon due to performance issues. Shortly there after, Jobs also announced the released of the iPhone SDK for creating iPhone native applications.
Today, Adobe CEO [...]
