Now that the iPod touch is a tried and true gaming platform, not an Apple event goes by that we don’t see a smattering of developers paraded up on stage to show off their shiny baubles. Today was no exception, with reps from Ubisoft, Tapulous, Gameloft and EA all making a brief appearance.
Each studio showed [...]
At the Apple Event today, Steve Jobs and company unveiled the fall lineup of iPods. The biggest change was the iPod nano, but every iPod got a little bit of love, be it increased capacity or decreased price.
iPod touch: The new “magic price point” of $199 has 8GB, with two upsell models at 32GB and [...]
Hours before the “Only Rock and Roll” event takes place in San Francisco, the Apple Store has slashed prices on some the current iPod models.
The new numbers are still in the process of being posted, with parts of the Apple Store referencing old prices, but the savings are real and substantial.
Conventional rumor wisdom strongly suggested a new iPod touch with a camera would be unveiled at the Apple Event tomorrow, but multiple sources are now suggesting unspecified issues with the camera may at least delay availability.
AppleInsider is citing “a person with a strong track record in predicting Apple’s upcoming product launches,” who says Apple has [...]
The first week of September has seen a deluge of new arrivals at the App Store. It’s time for me to search through the latest releases for iPhone and hand-pick my recommendations for the past seven days.
This week I’ve been looking at Button, Facebook, BlogPress and Quicksilver.

One of my favorite sci-fi novels, “Better Than [...]
Want to premiere a feature film starring some A-list Hollywood celebs? There’s an app for that. Or at least there will be, come Sept. 21. That’s the day Berlin Film Festival hit “Rage” premieres on the iPhone and iPod touch, where it will appear before satellite, DVD or online.
“Rage” is written and directed by British [...]
Apple has been receiving a lot of negative press lately due to reports of faulty iPhones literally blowing up in users’ faces. Well, in the general vicinity of their faces. The latest reports come from France, where an 18-year-old man reported that his girlfriend’s iPhone’s screen shattered, injuring his eye. At least three other similar [...]
For those of you waiting with baited breath for Facebook 3.0, the time has come. Pretty much exactly in time for that two week turnaround estimate, too, despite fears it might not make it. Here’s a taste of what’s available with the new update:
- See your upcoming Events and RSVP
- See Pages and post updates [...]
The proliferation of handheld GPS units has resulted in a geocaching craze. If you’re not familiar with the sport, here’s the scoop. People venture out with GPS devices and look for containers hidden in the great outdoors by other geocachers. Once found, you jot your name in the logbook, put the container back where you [...]
While faked images of Apple products are numerous, faked video is a hoax of another order of magnitude. That’s why this video posted by Sirius XM radio personalities Covino and Rich is worth a second look.
iPhone and iPod Touch games are a booming business in the App Store, but how do they stand up against the big daddies of the handheld game market?
The Nintendo DS and Sony PSP boast huge install bases of about 70 million and 35 million, respectively, and a robust game library featuring well-known, high-quality franchises; will [...]
It appears that rumors of the death of the e-book on the iPhone platform were greatly exaggerated, at least that’s what Apple has said in a recent statement. Backing up Apple’s official denial of plans to discontinue that side of app store business is a Wall Street Journal report (subscription required) that details a new [...]
If you play Texas Hold ‘Em on the iPhone, you know Jonathan Kromrey, the former games producer at Apple having worked on that title. His new title isn’t a game, but a position, head of Apple Gaming for Namco, producer of 80s’ nostalgia games like PAC-MAN, Dig Dug and Galaga.
According to Macworld, Kromrey will be [...]
The weekend has arrived, bringing with it the opportunity to reach that perfect state of iPhone-related relaxation: open the App Store and get ready to download the latest recommendations.
Before we get to the weekly picks, it’s time to take our usual look back at Apple news for the past seven days.
First up, more odd goings [...]
It was announced alongside iPhone OS 3.0, and its absence has been a conspicuous, if minor, cause for analyst concern. Today, though, Apple finally released its official MobileMe iDisk app for download via the App Store. As was announced previously, the app allows iPhone and iPod touch users to wirelessly share and view files from [...]
It’s the world’s first handheld StemCell Computer. It sports 1080p HD output, X-Fi Audio processing, a ten-point multi-gesture capacitive touchscreen, text-to-speech engine and expandable SDHC memory. It’s got lots more, too.
And it’s running Android.
In short, it’s a mobile device that beats the pants off the iPod touch — in hard, cold specs, at the very [...]
Apple launched the iPod almost eight years ago, and in that time has never seen a quarterly drop in sales of the diminutive pocket music player. It’s a product line that has so far generated over $38 billion on sales of 218 million units. None too shabby, eh?
Arik Hesseldahl, in an article in yesterday’s BusinessWeek, [...]
It just wouldn’t be a normal news week without the rumor-mill churning out more “proof” of unannounced products. For a change, this rumor is not about the fabled tablet device, but instead, it’s about the next-generation iPods touch and Nano — specifically, their happy-snappy new camera functionality.
According to a report on Cult of Mac, the [...]
A turbulent week of Apple news comes to a close, but with a selection of new app’s available for iPhone, it’s not quite over yet — it’s time to take a look at this week’s recommendations.
Hold up one moment though as, before we run through this week’s picks from the App Store, we should take [...]
The developers of iBank, the robust alternative to moribund Quicken for the Mac, have gone mobile with their latest product. With iBank Mobile for the iPhone and iPod touch you can bank on the go, but probably not go it alone.
To be fair, there is no perfect personal finance manager (PFM) in the App Store. [...]
