Written on November 16, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 6 people have commented

Scheduling a Genius Bar or One to One training session appointment has never been that difficult. Just go to Apple’s web site, enter some information, and you’re done. But a new rumor over at AppleInsider suggests that it’s about to become even easier, thanks to a new in-house developed iPhone app that could be forthcoming [...]

Apple Stores Go Down; Rumors of New Hardware Abound

Written on October 20, 2009 by Liam Cassidy and 5 people have commented

As I write, online Apple Stores around the world are going down. That yellow post-it is popping up, assuring eager shoppers, “We’ll be back soon.”
Why so eager? For weeks, rumors have leaked through the intertubes like lemonade spilled on a MacBook keyboard — in short, they got everywhere. There isn’t a tech news site that [...]

Written on September 23, 2009 by Liam Cassidy and 19 people have commented

It took the designer-store concept from Apple. It took the Genius Bar concept from Apple. What’s left for Microsoft to take from Apple as it gears-up to the launch of its first brick-and-mortar retail stores?
Well, the staff, of course.
According to The Loop, Microsoft is poaching Apple’s retail store managers with the promise of “significant” salary [...]

Written on September 04, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 11 people have commented

In the past, to buy an iPhone you’ve had to either deal with Apple or one of its worldwide providers directly, or try your chances with online retailers, some of whom can be rather shady. Getting a carrier unlocked version was even trickier. But as of next week, Germans will be able to walk into [...]

It seems like Apple’s retail initiatives are always shrouded in a dark veil of secrecy. Though we often hear how well they’re doing financially, what do those numbers look like on the inside? What figures does a typical Apple store track? Straight from the horse’s mouth, here’s a breakdown of a typical financial report that [...]

Most recent Apple rumors are focused on upcoming new hardware, including new iPod touch and nano models with a built-in camera, and the mysterious tablet device, which has often been rumored, but seems to be gaining lots of steam this time around. Yesterday, another interesting rumor surfaced, but this latest speculation has nothing to do [...]

An App Store for the Mac? Say Hello to Bodega

Written on August 04, 2009 by Chris Ryan and 10 people have commented

The idea of an App Store for the Mac is nothing new but finally, one company is transitioning the idea from a website to an actual application. Bodega, inspired by the Spanish word for “small convenience store,” is a freeware app that does just what we want: It acts as a storefront to lots of [...]

Apple Retail Store Success: It Ain’t Rocket Science

Written on June 22, 2009 by James Dempsey and 18 people have commented

In May of 2001, Apple opened its first retail outlet store in Tysons Corner, Virginia – it was immediately met by critics and the typical roster of Apple-haters with predictions of doom and massive financial losses. Eight years later, Apple has over 255 retail stores worldwide, and are the darling of the retail computer industry. So what makes them so successful?

While the Mac, iPod and iPhone are what makes Apple successful, the formula for their retail store’s success isn’t so obvious until you actually visit an Apple store. Sure, great products sell themselves, but Apple has made sure that their products have the best opportunity to do so by creating an environment that offers virtually no reason for a buyer to go elsewhere.

Apple: You Can’t Use Images of the iPhone on the iPhone

Written on April 22, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 10 people have commented

In a move that at this point honestly shouldn’t come as unexpected, Apple recently rejected an update to the popular app Instapaper that allows storage of web content for offline viewing at a later date. The reason for the rejection? The icon in the middle of the bottom menu bar in the screenshot posted below. [...]

Apple Introduces Cross-border Shopping, for Some

Written on March 24, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 8 people have commented

Up until today, Apple customers have only been able to ship products bought via Apple’s online stores to addresses located in the country of the store they’re ordering from. I say up until today because as of now, that’s no longer the case.
Now if you wanted to give your friend in Mexico an iPod for [...]

Songbird Adds 7Digital Music Store Integration, Gains Ground on iTunes

Written on March 18, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 7 people have commented

The Mozilla foundation’s alternative media manager program, Songbird, recently got a nice new addition that brings its functionality even closer to that of iTunes, the Apple monopoly-holder it seeks to unseat. That addition is the ability to buy music from directly within the program, just like you can do with the iTunes store. You’ll be [...]

Probably like most of you, I have been reading post after post and article after article about how the 3G iPhone is right around the corner because the Edge iPhone is listed as “currently unavailable” in the Store.

Of course, saying that this means our beloved iPhone won’t be making a return to the shelfs until [...]

Apple launched a revamped online store on Wednesday, giving it a refreshed look and just the polish it deserves. More emphasis is being put on new and top selling products (taking a cue from Amazon perhaps?), and alot [...]

The Apple Store Shopping Experience

Over the past few weeks I’ve had to make multiple trips to my local Apple store to pick up this, that, and the other. I’m the typical guy in that I when I go shopping I don’t actually “shop.” I go in, get what I need, and get out as fast as possible.
At most stores [...]
